About this Event
1111 West Jackson Avenue, University, MS 38677
The UM Registered Student Organization Children’s Literacy Project and the Center for Excellence in Literacy Instruction (CELI) invite all members of the university community to attend A Night for Literacy—an evening dedicated to raising awareness and support for children’s literacy in Mississippi.
The evening will feature a screening of SENTENCED, a powerful and critically acclaimed documentary exploring America’s growing illiteracy crisis—and the hope for change.
Following the film, join moderator Pete Smith and an esteemed panel of thought leaders, including co-producer Lucy Martin, for a meaningful conversation on the role each of us can play in combating illiteracy.
All proceeds will support the UM RSO Children’s Literacy Project’s 2025–2026 initiative, which will distribute literacy kits to elementary school students across Mississippi.
This is more than a film screening—it’s an opportunity to be part of something bigger. Your attendance helps fuel efforts to build brighter futures for Mississippi children.
🎟️ BUY TICKETS ($25). Light refreshments will be served.
Please note: The film contains mature content and is not suitable for children.
